Ed Schlink, 89

Ed Schlink of South Haven died peacefully Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, at the Annandale Care Center. He was 89.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, at Zion United Methodist Church in South Haven with Pastor Luke C. Nelson officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Zion United Methodist Cemetery.

Edward Charles Schlink was born in Buffalo to Adolph and Mamie (May) Schlink March 1, 1921, and lived in South Haven most of his life. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He graduated from Annandale High School and went on to Hamline University where he earned an engineering degree. He worked as a highway engineer for the State of Minnesota for his entire working career, retiring in 1980. Ed enjoyed many activities such as hunting, fishing, crossword puzzles, baseball, smoking a cigar every so often, and simply enjoying life. He is dearly loved by many nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents Adolph and Mamie; and brother Maurice "Morrie."

He is survived by his niece and nephews: Bruce (and Penney) Schlink of Plymouth, Gene (and Linda) Schlink of Baileys Harbor, Wis., Sue (and Bob) Edel of Winona, Mark Schlink of South Haven, and Mike Schlink of Lakeville; and many great-nephews and great-nieces.

Pallbearers will be Gene Schlink, Mark Schlink, Mark Schlink, Mike Schlink, Michael Schlink, Scott Edel, Pete Tuomisto, and Ray Welter. Barb Root will provide the music for the service. Arrangements are by Dingmann Funeral Care of Annandale.
