Shed fire in rural Litchfield
Wednesday, Dec. 8, the Meeker County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call reporting that a shed was on fire at the address of 16235 County State Aid Highway 1, Litchfield. A deputy spoke to the homeowner, Harold Johnson, age 61, of Litchfield, who noticed smoke coming from a shed located on the northwest corner of his property. He saw that he had several bails of cornstalk (foliage) that he described to be "hot bails" on fire inside his shed and called 911. Attempts were made to break up the fire by moving the bails and removing farm equipment from the shed. Litchfield fire attempted to extinguish the fire with mutual aid from Cosmos for an extra tanker. The shed was a complete loss at an estimated value of $80,000. Some items inside the shed that were also damaged were a New Holland round bailer, a New Holland disc bine, a New Holland forage blower, and other miscellaneous items.
Squad car hit in Watkins
Another incident that day, at 1:32 p.m. a Meeker County marked squad car was struck in an accident at the intersection of Meeker Avenue North and 4th Street in the City of Watkins.
Investigation showed that a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Joseph Meyer, 43, of Watkins, was making a right turn onto Meeker Avenue North, when he reached for his cell phone. Meyer made the turn at the intersection too wide and struck a 2009 Ford Crown Victoria patrol car driven by an on-duty Meeker County Deputy, causing damage to the driver's side front fender and door. There were no injuries as a result of the crash. The crash is under investigation by the Meeker County Sheriff's Office.

Sunday, Dec. 12
8:29 a.m. the Sheriff's Office took a report on a burglary that occurred on County State Aid Highway 2, Watkins.
11:47 a.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to an alarm on Central Avenue, Watkins. Shortly later, the deputy was canceled due to it being a false alarm.
7:08 p.m. the Sheriff's Office observed a snowmobile violation in the area of MN Highway 55 and 647th Avenue, Watkins. The deputy made contact with the driver who was issued a warning.
Saturday, Dec. 11
10:31 a.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a parking complaint occurring on Central Avenue, Watkins. A deputy advised the owner of the vehicle of the complaint. The vehicle was stalled and arrangements made to get it moved.
8:52 p.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Watkins Ambulance for a medical at a residence on Church Street, Watkins. One individual was transported to St Cloud Hospital.
Friday, Dec, 10
9:15 a.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to and dispatched Eden Valley Fire to a report of a fire in a heating unit at a business on Meeker Avenue East, Eden Valley. Eden Valley Fire determined there was no fire in the unit.
11:42 a.m. the Sheriff's Office issued a deer possession tag to an individual that found a deer on 250th Street and 700th Avenue, Dassel.
6:32 p.m. the Sheriff's Office received information regarding suspicious activity in the area of Service Road North, Watkins.
8:50 p.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Eden Valley Rescue and Watkins Ambulance, per the request of Stearns County, for a medical at a residence on MN Highway 22, Eden Valley. One individual was treated at the residence.
Thursday Dec. 9
11:31 a.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a burglary at a residence on 340th Street, Watkins. A report was taken.
5:05 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a dog complaint in the Watkins Trailer Park, Watkins. A deputy spoke to the owner of the dog and advised them of the complaint.
7:30 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a car/deer accident on 743rd Avenue, South Haven. The deputy spoke to the driver and filed a report.
Wednesday Dec. 8
8:45 a.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Dassel Rescue and Gold Cross Ambulance to a medical at a residence on County State Aid Highway 19, Kingston. One individual was transported to St. Cloud hospital.
10:07 a.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Watkins Ambulance to a medical in Stearns County on Magnus Johnson Street, Kimball. One individual was transported to
St. Cloud Hospital.
10:49 a.m. the Sheriff's Office assisted the Litchfield Police in a welfare check at a residence on 675th Street, Watkins.
1:32 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a property damage accident on 4th Street and Meeker Avenue, Watkins. No injuries were reported. A report was taken. See story above.
3:46 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a report of an assault at a residence in the Watkins Trailer Park. A report was taken.
8:52 p.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Watkins Ambulance for a medical at an address on Meeker Avenue North, Watkins. Upon arrival the ambulance crew treated the patient on scene; no transport was needed.
8:55 p.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Watkins Ambulance and Watkins Rescue to a medical at a residence on Luella Street, Watkins. Gold Cross Ambulance was also dispatched for mutual aid but was canceled a short time later. Watkins Ambulance transported one individual to the St Cloud Hospital.
Tuesday Dec. 7
9:28 a.m. the Sheriff's Office took a report of a theft from a residence on 587th Avenue, Eden Valley.
2:44 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a dog complaint at a residence on Meeker Avenue East, Eden Valley. The dog was not barking upon the deputy's arrival and there was no answer at the residence. The information was passed onto the Eden Valley Police Department.
4:39 p.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Kimball Rescue and Gold Cross Ambulance to a medical at a residence on 748th Avenue, South Haven. One individual was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital.
11:42 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to and dispatched Gold Cross Ambulance, Eden Valley Fire and Eden Valley Rescue to a vehicle rollover, with injuries in the area of County State Aid Highway 3 and County State Aid Highway 30, Grove City. Life Link Helicopter was also dispatched to the scene. Life Link Helicopter was canceled a short time later. The driver of the vehicle Jason Allen Paul, age 28 of Grove City, was transported to Meeker Memorial Hospital and possible DUI charges are pending. Also arrested at the scene was Aaron David Kaufmann, age 23, of Hutchinson, for DUI. Eden Valley Police also assisted at the scene.
Monday Dec. 6
7:45 a.m. the Sheriff's Office received a report of an injured deer on 675th Avenue, Watkins. A deputy responded, put down the deer, and issued a deer possession tag.
10:41 a.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Gold Cross Ambulance and Litchfield Rescue for a medical at a residence on 675th Avenue, Watkins. One individual was transported to the Meeker Memorial Hospital.
