Sheriff John Sanner of Stearns County announced Dec. 1, the winners of the Minnesota Sheriffs' Association Scholarship Program for 2010. The Association awards up to 15 scholarships each year to individuals planning to become Minnesota peace officers. The applicants apply through their local sheriff's office. This year, the scholarship committee chose 15 winners out of the broad spectrum of applicants. This was a difficult task, which speaks well of the applicants who chose to partipate in the scholarship program. The Minnesota Sheriffs' Association Scholarship Program, which is promoted by the 87 sheriffs of Minnesota, is pleased to announce the winners. They are: Brian Bohlig of St. Cloud; Jason Borash of Little Falls; Travis Cain of Alpha; Derrick Deutsch of Grand Rapids; Rodney Drexler of New Ulm; Harrison Egerman of Minneapolis; Erin Guenther of Alexandria; Kasey Kuhlers of Winona; Zachary Libra of Hinckley; Donald McGregor of Warren; Timothy Melver of Preston; Andrew Miller of Luverne; Russell Platz of Bemidji; Bryanna Reich of Red Wing; and Tyler Sandgren of Redwood Falls.
The members of the Minnesota Sheriffs' Association offer their congratulations to each of the scholarship winners. The qualifications and academic excellence shown by these winners reflect the dedication and pride of the young people in the state of Minnesota who will enter the difficult but rewarding profession of law enforcement and public service.
The awarding of the scholarship to the individual winners will take place at a later date and will be made by the sheriff in the winner's home community.
