Woman and car go through ice
Sunday, Dec. 5, just before noon, the Stearns County Sheriff's Office responded to a car through the ice one-half mile north of Edgerton Road on Highway 22, about three miles south of Richmond. a 1995 green Chevrolet Lumina owned and driven by Kathleen Cronin Hansmann, age 71 of Wayzata was traveling southbound on Highway 22 when she lost control of the car on a curve, overcorrected, and went off the road. The car landed on the ice on the west side of Highway 22. The car broke through the ice and was resting on on its side in the water with Hansmann still inside. People passing by assisted in getting Hansmann to safety. She was uninjured and refused transport to the hospital by ambulance. The Sheriff's Office was assisted by Richmond Rescue Squad and Gold Cross Ambulance. The accident remains under investigation.

Sunday, Dec. 5: 3:39 a.m., 36-year-old man fell and broke his leg at an address on Hwy. 15 in Maine Prairie Township; Stearns County Sheriff's Office, Kimball Police, Kimball Rescue, and Watkins Ambulance responded.
Saturday, Dec. 4: 8:24 a.m., Kimball Rescue responded to help a woman with a shoulder injury in Meeker County (South Haven address).
Wednesday or Thursday, Nov. 29 or 30, Kimball Police took a report of theft of fishing tackle and equipment from a residence in Fair Haven Township; investigation is pending.
Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2:45 p.m., car accident with injuries at Co. Rd. 8 and Hwy. 15; Kimball Rescue and Gold Cross Ambulance responded.

Sunday, Dec. 5
3:41 a.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Watkins Ambulance, per the request of Stearns County, for a medical at a residence on MN Highway 15, Kimball. One individual was transported to St Cloud Hospital.
5:38 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a report of unsafe condition on MN Highway 15, Dassel. A deputy located a dead deer and issued a deer possession tag to a second individual.
Saturday, Dec. 4
5:05 a.m. the Sheriff's Office received a call regarding an alarm on MN Highway 55, Watkins. The deputy was canceled a short time later.
8:21 a.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Gold Cross Ambulance and contacted Stearns County Sheriff's Office to dispatch Kimball Rescue for a medical on 748th Avenue, South Haven. One individual was transported to Buffalo Hospital.
9:27 a.m. the Sheriff's Office took a report of a property damage accident that occurred on 367th Street, Kimball.
9:29 p.m. the Sheriff's Office assisted with a vehicle unlock at a residence on Glenshire Boulevard North, Watkins.
Thursday, Dec. 2
10:52 a.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to and dispatched Watkins Ambulance to a medical at a residence on Church Street, Watkins. One individual was transported to the Paynesville Hospital.
9:15 p.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Litchfield Police and Litchfield Fire to a report of a fire in the Broaster at the Pizza Ranch on North Sibley, Litchfield. The Litchfield Fire Department assisted in putting the fire out.
Wednesday Dec. 1
1:51 a.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Watkins Ambulance, Eden Valley Rescue and Eden Valley Police for a medical at an address on Emily Avenue East, Eden Valley. A private party took one individual to the hospital.
4:00 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to and dispatched Dassel Rescue and Gold Cross Ambulance to a medical at a residence on County State Aid Highway 19, Kimball. The individual was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital by private transport.
4:24 p.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Watkins Ambulance for a medical at a residence on Hidden Lane, Kimball. The party refused transport to the hospital.
8:20 p.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Watkins Fire to a report of an electrical box that was on fire at a residence in the Watkins Trailer Park, Watkins. The fire department extinguished the fire.
10:36 p.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Watkins Ambulance to a medical at a residence on Luella Street, Watkins. One individual was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital.
Tuesday, Nov. 30
10:16 a.m. the Sheriff's Office took a report of a hit and run property damage accident on 690th Avenue and County State Aid Highway 27, Kimball.
11:02 a.m. the Sheriff's Office received a report of suspicious activity at a residence on Church Street, Watkins. The deputies spoke to the individuals and they were leaving.
12:47 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to and dispatched Eden Valley Rescue and Watkins Ambulance to a medical at a business on 363rd Street, Eden Valley. Eden Valley Rescue and Ambulance were canceled prior to arrival. Meeker County Coroner was called to the scene and a report was taken. An additional news release will follow.
1:51 p.m. the Sheriff's Office took a report of trespassing at an address on Church Street, Watkins.
6:08 p.m. the Sheriff's Office received a report of an occupied vehicle in the ditch along MN Highway 55 East, Eden Valley. The vehicle was gone upon officers arrival.
Monday, Nov. 29
9:07 a.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Eden Valley fire to a report of a strong gas odor at a business on State Street North, Eden Valley. Upon the arrival of the Fire Department it was determined to be a sewer leak.
5:59 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to and dispatched Eden Valley Fire for a fire on 567th Avenue, Eden Valley. It was determined to be a controlled burn and the fire department was cancelled.
6:01 p.m. the Sheriff's Office received a complaint of someone throwing items at vehicles near an address on Parker Avenue West, Dassel. A deputy located the juveniles throwing snowballs and warned them and their parents.
8:01 p.m. the Sheriff's Office received a complaint of unsafe conditions on MN Highway 15 South, Dassel. A deputy responded and removed a dead coyote from the roadway.
8:52 p.m. the Sheriff's Office received a report of a vehicle in the ditch on MN Highway 24, Watkins. Upon arrival of the deputy the vehicle had been removed from the ditch and had left the area. The deputy located the vehicle and the owner and filed a report.
Calf thieves arrested
Theft of 17 calves from Stearns, Todd and Douglass Counties has been under investigation since Nov. 26. Thursday, Dec. 2, the Stearns County Sheriff's Office received information on the location of the 17 stolen calves from these three counties. The caller had heard of the thefts through the extensive media coverage and provided information to investigators that led them to the rural Rothsay and Barnesville areas in Wilkin and Clay Counties.
Investigators from Stearns and Todd Counties were assisted by deputies in Wilkin County and they were able to recover all of the cattle reported stolen over the past two weeks. The calves were turned over to their owners. Deputies arrested Jesse Ronsberg, age 19, of Rothsay, who was booked into the Wilkin County Jail on the theft charges. The juvenile, a 16-year old boy from Barnesville, was also arrested and released to his parents.
Investigators will forward the case to the local County Attorneys for prosecution on theft and burglary charges.
Man killed pushing snow
On the afternoon of Nov. 30, at 12:47 p.m., the Meeker County Sheriff's Office received a report of a farm accident/medical at the address of 61953 363rd Street, Eden Valley. Deputies responded and found the victim seated on a tractor seat deceased and slumped over the fender. The victim was an employee of Langmo Farms and was pushing snow with a small John Deere loader tractor. Tracks indicated the loader tractor hit an old windmill located upon the property. The 40-foot tall windmill collapsed and fell upon the loader tractor as it was backing away. After being struck by the falling windmill, the loader tractor that was still in gear continued backing away for a short distance before becoming hung up on a steel post. The tractor began spinning and was still running when another employee of Langmo Farms discovered the victim. The Medical Examiners Office was contacted and responded to the scene. The body of the deceased is being transported to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy to determine the cause of the death.
The victim of the accident has been identified as Patrick Ladd, age 52, of Eden Valley.
