Stearns Co. fatal rollover

Sunday, Nov. 21, at 10:12 a.m. Stearns County Sheriff's Office responded to a single-car crash on County Road 35 at the intersection with 295th Ave. in Millwood Township. Also responding to assist at the crash was Melrose Police, Minnesota State Patrol, Freeport Fire and Rescue, and Melrose Ambulance.

The crash happened when a 1999 Chevy pickup truck, driven by Frank Luna, age 34, of Long Prairie, went into the ditch after losing control on the icy road. Luna's truck was southbound on CR 35 when he lost control of it and went into the ditch where it rolled. Also in the pickup were Mariana Acosta, age 27 and Maria Tapi, age 38, both of Long Prairie.

A 12-year-old girl, Maritza Urquidec of Long Prairie, was thrown from the vehicle. She received medical treatment at the scene and at the Melrose Hospital. She later died from her injuries at the Melrose Hospital. The Ramsey County Medical Office is conducting an autopsy. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. There were five others in the pickup truck but no-one else reported any injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the Stearns County Sheriff's Office assisted by the State Patrol.

Sunday, Nov. 21

6:27 a.m. the Sheriff's Office took a report of a property damage accident that occurred on County State Aid Highway 2, Watkins.

8:01 a.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Watkins Rescue and Ambulance for a medical on School Avenue, Watkins. One individual was transported to St. Cloud Hospital.

4:47 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a residential alarm on County State Aid Highway 19, South Haven. The deputy was canceled prior to arrival.

5:55 p.m. the Sheriff's Office took a theft report from a residence on County State Aid Highway 27, South Haven.

7:48 p.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Eden Valley Rescue and Watkins Ambulance for a medical on Stearns Avenue East, Eden Valley. One individual was transported to Meeker Memorial Hospital.

Saturday, Nov. 20

7:24 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a cellular 9-1-1 call from a residence on MN Highway 15, Dassel. The deputy made contact with the individuals and found all to be okay.

10:58 p.m. the Sheriff's Office assisted the MN St Patrol and dispatched Litchfield Rescue, Litchfield Fire, Gold Cross Ambulance to a personal injury accident on MN Highway 22, Litchfield. Upon arrival, Hutchinson Ambulance was contacted to also respond to the accident scene to assist in transporting. A total of six individuals were transported. Four were transported to Meeker Memorial Hospital and two were transported to Hutchinson Hospital. The Meeker County Deputy Coroner was also dispatched for one fatality, Kimberly Mead, 44, of Willmar. LifeLink helicopter was requested, but could not fly because of the weather. The MN State Patrol is investigating the accident.

11:45 p.m. the Sheriff's Office received information regarding a one-vehicle rollover in the area of MN Highway 15 and Kingston Street, Kimball. The MN St Patrol was contacted.

Thursday, Nov. 18

7:21 a.m. the Sheriff's Office received a cellular 9-1-1 call reporting a car/deer accident on MN Highway 15, Dassel. There were no injuries. A deputy and the MN State Patrol were notified.

11:50 a.m. the Sheriff's Office received a report of a dead deer on MN Highway 15 North, Dassel. A deputy responded and issued a possession tag.

1:46 p.m. the Sheriff's Office received a report of mailbox damage at a residence on County State Aid Highway 2, Watkins. A deputy spoke to owner and advised him of his options.

2:58 p.m. the Sheriff's Office received a report of suspicious activity at Watkins Trailer Park, Watkins. A deputy responded and filed a report.

6:08 p.m. the Sheriff's Office received a report of mailbox damage on County State Aid Highway 2, Watkins. The party did not need a deputy to respond and the information was noted.

11:37 p.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Eden Valley Rescue and Watkins Ambulance to a medical at a residence on Central Avenue West, Eden Valley. One individual was treated at the scene.

Wednesday, Nov. 17

2:27 a.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to an alarm at a residence on County State Aid Highway 17. Watkins. The deputy spoke with homeowner and was advised that it was a false alarm.

7:29 a.m. the Sheriff's Office received a report of property in the ditch on 717th Avenue, Kimball. A deputy picked up the item and secured it until owner could be located.

2:59 p.m. the Sheriff's Office received a report of possible damage to property on County State Aid Highway 19, Kingston. A deputy responded and determined no damage had occurred.

4:48 p.m. the Sheriff's Office received a request to unlock a vehicle at an address on Central Avenue North, Watkins. A deputy responded and successfully unlocked the vehicle.

11:09 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a property damage accident on MN Highway 15, Dassel. Upon arrival of the deputy the deer was put down and a tag was issued.

Tuesday, Nov. 16

7:38 a.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to an accident with no injuries on MN Highway 15, Dassel. The vehicle lost control on an icy bridge. The DOT was contacted and the vehicle was towed. The deputy filed a report.

4:11 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a theft from a residence in the Watkins Trailer Park, Watkins. The deputy filed a report.

5:33 p.m. the Sheriff's Office received a cellular 9-1-1 call reporting a car/deer accident in the area of MN Highway 15 and 300th Street, Dassel. There were no injuries reported. The call was transferred to the State Patrol.

10:34 p.m. the Sheriff's Office received a report of a car/deer accident on MN Highway 15 and 273rd Street, Dassel. There were no injuries reported.

11:01 p.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Watkins Ambulance to a medical in Stearns County on Linden Avenue, Kimball. One individual was transported to St. Cloud Hospital.

11:57 p.m. the Sheriff's Office received a report of an alarm at a business on Central Avenue North, Watkins. The deputy was cancelled prior to arrival.

Monday, Nov. 15

4:51 a.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Eden Valley Fire, per the request of Stearns County, for a barn fire at a residence on 150th Street, Eden Valley. Watkins Fire was later dispatched, per the request of Stearns County, for mutual aid.

4:50 p.m. the Sheriff's Office received a report of unsafe in the area of MN Highway 15 and County State Aid Highway 34, Watkins. The information was transferred to the State Patrol.

6:55 p.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Eden Valley Rescue and Watkins Ambulance to a medical on MN Highway 22, South of Eden Valley. One individual was transported to Meeker Memorial Hospital.
