Farm accident ends in fatality
Stearns County Sheriff's Office responded at 5:55 p.m. Friday,
Oct. 22, to a farm accident near 8664 360th Street in St. Wendel Township. This is about three miles south of the city of St. Stephen. Upon arrival, deputies found Mary Ann Fideler, age 52 of St. Joseph, had been run over by a loaded grain wagon, also called a gravity box. Mary Ann had been assisting in unhooking the wagon from a tractor to be re-connected to a truck. The wagon began to roll away, and she tried to stop it, was run over and died at the scene. The accident is under investigation by the
Stearns County Sheriff's Office.
Fatal crash in Maine Prairie Township
Thursday, Oct. 21, at 1:39 p.m., the Stearns County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a one-vehicle rollover at County Road 8
and Evergreen Road in Maine Prairie Township. This is approximately 1.5 miles north of the town site of Marty. Preliminary investigation shows that a 2006 GMC Sierra pickup driven by Kristi Merten, age 35 of Kimball, was moving southbound on County Road 8 and ran off the road to the right. The truck rolled over several times and Merten was ejected. Upon arrival, the officers determined that Merten was dead. The Sheriff's Office was aided by Rockville Fire and Rescue, Gold Cross Ambulance, and the Cold Spring Police Department. This crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff's Office.
