Kimball Community Education receives Area Arts and Humanity Grant

Kimball School has been awarded a grant from the Mardag Foundation. This foundation has a strong mission statement that reads:

The Mardag Foundation makes grants to nonprofit organizations that improve the quality of life in Minnesota for children, seniors and other at-risk populations and for programs in education and arts.

The grant monies will make it possible to lay the ground work to improve the lives of families in our target area through arts and humanity promotion and opportunities. As the administrators of the grant, Kimball Community Education has outlined goals and programs for the grant year.

First-year goals are to expand current service area for arts and humanity education, to increase arts and humanity educational opportunities, to initiate media arts and public speaking education and to start building an arts education scholarship base for individuals.

Some programming ideas that have come from community members in regards to this initiative are Summer Arts in the Park, Swing Style Performing Choir, Historical Society Storytellers, Chicken Soup for the Soul Purpose of Supporting the Arts event, intergenerational performing opportunities, additional arts education classes, webcasting of local and surrounding arts events and increased participation in existing Performing Arts Club activities.

Our hope is that the proposed activities will create out-of-school activities in arts and humanity. It should increase self esteem, be an emotional outlet for participants and create numerous opportunities for participants to explore arts and humanity. Worldwide feelings start from each individual and this grant money should spark an appreciation for cultural differences, artistic beauty, and compassion. We want participants to experience a beautiful world that they may not normally have a chance to experience. We feel this will create a feeling of humanity in our corner of the world and spread as our students touch the lives of others.

The activities associated with this grant are just some of the great things going on in Kimball Community Education this year. We want to extend an invitation to get involved and explore the opportunities offered through our programs, special events and initiatives. We have several community partners and numerous program areas for you to make the most of. Enjoy the school year.
