Kimball Area High School was one of eight hot spots for Class A speech competition on Saturday, April 17, as 234 students from 25 Section 5A schools competed for 39 trips to the state tournament. The top three competitors in each of 13 speech categories won a spot at the meet this coming Friday and Saturday.
Including Jonathan, Kimball entered 12 students in the Section 5A meet. Seniors Abby Zoller and Kelsey Vigoren placed fifth and sixth in Original Oratory, and along with Lindsey Pramann, who competed in Great Speeches, completed their last career speech meet. In Extemporaneous Reading, sophomore Chelsey Maus took fourth place, and freshman Tyler Dockery took seventh, marking their last meet in this category as both will switch categories next year. Freshman Kenzie Traurigplaced eighth in Great Speeches and will also be making a category change.
Other students who competed were freshman duo, Blake Fox and Spencer Capes, sopho-more Tara Matthieson in Extemporaneous Speaking, freshman Alissa Jones in Extemporaeous Reading, and eighth-graders Megan Bisila in Informative Speaking and McKenzie Libbesmeier in Original Oratory.
Milaca High School, coached by Audrey French, won top honors with 10 students advancing to state and the 2010 Section 5A Championship, with Dassel-Cokato, coached by Susan Marco, taking the second place spot.
