The Kimball B.O.B. (Brett Ostby's Boys) took second place at the Pierz 3 on 3 tournament held Sunday, April 11. The team consisted of Ty Filzen, Neil Helgeson, Tyler Lock and Dillon Menson. It took a few games during pool play to get Filzen and Lock acclimated to the game. They lost their first three games in pool play, but got off to an 18-0 lead over Pillager. The next few minutes consisted of running their offense around Loch who hit a big three, to finish it off.
In bracket play, the inside/outside play of Menson and Helgeson and Loch (lock) down defense of Filzen and Loch carried them to wins over Pillager and an undefeated Pierz team to put them in the championship against Menagha. The Menagha game was tied up at 21 before losing at the end.
Some highlights of the tournament included Menson stuffing the 6'10" post player from DeLasalle and Helgeson hitting the game-winning shot against Pierz when he was in the air deciding whether to pass or shoot. Also, Filzen got hot and hit some key shots as the tournament went into bracket play, and Loch defended and rebounded like he had played the game his whole life. Coach Ostby called some crucial time outs to get the team focused.
The boys hustled, played great, and had a lot of fun on their way to a second-place trophy. Another game note, both Filzen and Loch were seen signing some type of contract after the tournament.
