Besides the focus on Earth Day (April 22), April is a time for honoring and celebrating volunteers. Last Saturday's clean-up day in the park is just one act of many, many efforts by an untold number of volunteers in the area. (The Tri-County News is full of such things each week!)
Whether it's part of an organization (like Lions or Scouts), a church or school activity, or individuals and families acting on their own, the benefit of volunteers throughout central Minnesota (and, indeed, all of America) cannot be measured.
I encourage everyone to do two things, this month and always:
1) Acknowledge those who volunteer time, effort or materials to improve and advance our communities. A simple word of "thanks" can go a long way, even though it isn't why volunteers do what they do.
2) Practice random acts of kindness whenever possible. It's catching!
