Jews for Jesus
Matt Friedman of Jews for Jesus will speak at the Lake Union Covenant Church at 7 p.m. Friday, March 26, Pastor Lloyd Melvie invites all to attend. Jews for Jesus uses creative methods and contemporary issues to present the message that Jesus is the Messiah to Jewish people around the world.
Friedman serves in Los Angeles with Jews for Jesus as a youth worker. The son of a Messianic Rabbi in Philadelphia, Matt grew up with an identity as both a Jew and believer in Jesus. He received Jesus as his Messiah and Savior at a Jews for Jesus Camp Gilgal program. Friedman stayed involved in Camp Gilgal and eventually became a camp counselor and led youth programs for Jews for Jesus in the New York area.
Friedman received a degree in film from Hunter College in New York City. After completing an internship with Jews for Jesus, he served in New York and then Los Angeles. He met Sara Herr at Project Joshua, a Jews for Jesus program in which college students spend two weeks in Israel. They continued their friendship while Matt was in the associate student program in New York and Sara was finishing school at the University of Nevada in Reno. Sara says, "after I decided to apply for Jews for Jesus staff, we began dating. We both knew before we began dating that we wanted to serve God at Jews for Jesus, and it's been a perfect opportunity for us to serve God together."
To Matt Friedman and other Jews for Jesus staff, the objective evidence of the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament, and the transformation in their own lives, provide ample evidence that Jesus was who he claimed to be - the Jewish Messiah. Friedman will be happy to answer questions after the presentation.
Christ in the Passover
Jesus' Last Supper was actually a Jewish Passover. Matt Friedman will re-create the traditional Passover service and explain how it foreshadowed Jesus' death and resurrection. He will set a table with items traditionally used at the Passover meal and will detail their spiritual significance. He will also explain the connection between the events of the first Passover in Egypt and the redemption that Jesus accomplished, as well as the deep bond between the ancient Passover feast and the Christian communion celebration today.
Jews for Jesus has presented "Christ in the Passover" at more than 38,000 churches and has been enthusiastically received by Christians who appreciate learning more about the Jewish backgrounds of their faith. The book Christ in the Passover, written by the founder of Jews for Jesus Moishe Rosen and his wife Ceil, will be available after the presentation. Also available will be a DVD of the Christ in the Passover presentation with David Brickner, executive director of Jews for Jesus officiating.
