Wednesday, March 3, the Kimball Area High School ninth-graders were transported by Mayor Tammy Konz to St. Paul, and toured our historic state capitol building. Before we started our scheduled tour, the class visited the Memorial Park located directly across the street from the capitol.
Our class took a group photo in front of the Minnesota Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
After we spent some time viewing the memorial area, the class was divided into three groups and taken on the tour. We saw both the House and Senate chambers, the Supreme Court chamber and the governor's conference room as part of the tour. It was very busy at the capitol, with a support group trying to raise awareness for battered women in the rotunda area. At the end of the tour, we were joined by Representative Larry Hosch and Dean Urdahl, as well as Senator Michelle Fischbach, to take a picture on the capitol steps and answer a few questions regarding state government. This was a great experience for a group of very well-behaved Kimball ninth-grade students.
