Helena Iverson of Bagley died Wednesday, March 10, 2010, atCornerstone Nursing Home in Bagley. She was 94.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 15, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church at Ebro Corner with the Rev. Shawn Stafford officiating. Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service Sunday, March 14, at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. There was also be a reviewal for one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Helena Evangeline Johnson was born Feb. 12, 1916, in the village of McIntosh, Minn. to Edwin and Mary (Klingstrar), Johnson. She grew up and attended rural school in the McIntosh area.
Helena was married to Conrad Iverson May 6, 1932. After their marriage, they lived on a farm west of Bagley in Clearwater County. Conrad died in the spring of 1973.
Helena enjoyed working out of her home for Lady Slipper Designs of Bemidji for several years. She also enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and adopted grandchildren. She later moved from the family farm to Park View Apartments in Bagley prior to moving to the Cornerstone Nursing Home in November 2004.
She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, baking, reading, and she was an excellent breadmaker. She always will be remembered for her sense of humor, intense love for her family, her rhubarb pies, egg-less Christmas cake and Christmas ornaments that she made each year for her family and the church. Helena also shared her time and talents as a volunteer at the local nursing home. She was a dedicated member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church where she was active in many church functions, including the Ladies' Aide and as a Sunday School teacher for many years. Her church home and family will dearly miss Helena.
Helena was preceded in death by her parents,her husband Conrad, children Cora Choitz and Geraldine Mackereth, brother Raymond, sister Muriel, stepbrother Henry, and stepsister Grace.
She is survived by 11 children: Rosemary (and Roger) Hill of Floodwood, Emily (and Larry) Dostal of Chisholm, Marlene Norby of Pierz, Jeanette (and Warren) Sundseth of Webster, Wis., Eugene (and Louella) Iverson of Bagley, Judith (and Wally) Meierhofer of Pierz, LeRoy (and Susan) Iverson of Bagley, Vernon (and Denise) Iverson of Bagley, Randy (and Joyce) Iverson of Oklahoma City, Jeffrey Iverson of Dassel, and David (and Elizabeth) Iverson of Bagley; 34 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren; brother Glen Johnson of Naytahwaush, Minn.; sister Genevieve of Park Rapids; and numerous other relatives.
