Lakers defeat Cubs

The Cubs hosted the Lakers from Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted last Tuesday night, March 2, at the Leo Wirth Gymnasium. Kimball jumped out to a great start leading 13-5 early in the game. The Lakers quickly called time-out to make a defensive adjustment. The change stymied the Cubs for the rest of the half, as the Lakers led by 14 at the break (28-14).

In the second half, the Cubs started strong, cutting the Laker lead to 6 in the opening minutes. Kimball, however, could not maintain the momentum as the Lakers roared back. Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted went on to win by a score of 62-44.

Alex Fischer and Pat Libbesmeier led the Cubs' scoring attack with 10 points apiece. Fischer also added three blocked shots. Neil Helgeson contributed five steals and Dillon Menson hauled down six rebounds.

Cubs Fall to the Irish on Senior Night

Kimball hosted the Irish from Maple Lake last Friday night, March 5, on Senior Night. Maple Lake jumped out to an early 12-0 lead on the Cubs. It was not until the 8:58 mark of the first half that the Cubs finally scored. The Irish held a 23-10 advantage at the half.

The Cubs were able to put more points on the board in the second half. However, they came up short against a strong Maple Lake team, falling by a score of 57-37.

Neil Helgeson tossed in 12 points on the night. Dillon Menson grabbed five rebounds. Danny Jenson handed out three assists and Pat Libbesmeier swatted three shots for the Cubs. The Cubs ended the regular season with a record of seven wins and 17 losses. Kimball will play at Zimmerman Thursday, March 11, in the first round of tournament play.
