The St. Cloud Municipal Band (SCMB) and Sartell High School Band will perform a joint concert at 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 9. The concert will be held in the Sartell High School Auditorium in Sartell. The two groups will perform separately, and then combine to play together. The two bands will play Grainger's "Irish Tune From County Derry" for the concert finale directed by Sartell's Gordon Schlichting.
St. Cloud Municipal Band Director Adam Tervola Hultberg says the combined concert kicks off the Municipal Band's concert season, "The joint concert starts what will be a big 2010 performance year. We will play the combined concert with Sartell, have our annual Spring Paramount concert May 10, our Summer Concert Series in July and August at Barden Park, and we will go to Germany in June for a series of concerts for our sister city Spalt's 1200th anniversary."
It will be Tervola Hultberg's first full season with the SCMB after joining the group in December 2009. Tervola Hultberg is a graduate student at St. Cloud State University acquiring his Master's Degree in Music Instruction. He graduated from Bethel College in December 2000, lives in New York Mills, and has taught music at Detroit Lakes, and Perham. He is also president of the Minnesota Band Directors Association.
Tervola Hultberg is excited to be leading the group, "it is a great opportunity for me to lead such an established group. I look forward to helping the band reach new horizons and working with many talented musicians." The joint concert with Sartell High School and the Paramount concert in May are free and community members are encouraged to attend.
