Two sixth-grade girls attended the Central Minnesota Regional Science Fair at St. Cloud State University. Amanda Roerick and Lauren Libbesmeier attended the SCSU Central Minnesota Regional Science Fair Saturday, Feb 20.
Amanda's project was on table salt vs. road salt titled "Which melts ice the best." She timed the melting time and measured the amount of water that melted from the ice block. Table salt (sodium chloride) started out first but the road salt (calcium chloride) won!
Lauren's project was "Hand sanitizer vs. Soap." She had friends touch germy objects and then wash their hands or use hand sanitizer. Then she had them touch petri dishes which she incubated to grow the bacteria. The hand sanitizer won! They each had to speak with several judges during the one and a half hour judging.
Mrs. Bernardy, their teacher, came on her Saturday off to support them. Thank you for coming, Mrs. Bernardy!
The girls each received an award of Merit for their entries. The girls had a great time meeting other participants and talking with the judges. Thank you to Kimball Elementary School for providing this opportunity.
