The Cubs placed nine kids in a very tough individual section tournament. They went into the tournament with eight kids seeded fourth or higher and everyone else set-up to make a good run. The wrestlers were focused and ready to wrestle.

Caramon Hansen (140) also put together a great tournament winning in the quarterfinals with a fall in 2:55 against Paynesville's Brent Schlangen. In the semi's Caramon won by a decision over Matt Meyer from ACGC 11-7 who is currently ranked 8th in state. In the finals, Caramon was down 2-6 in the second period, Caramon wrestled very aggressively and threw his opponent for a fall in 3:24, to take home the championship over Cam Schafer from Minnewaska.

Two guys were able to finish second in the tournament and also advance to the Xcel for the state tournament. Jordan Joseph (135) put together a good tournament, winning in the quarter finals 9-3 over Hunter Wollschlager from Minnewaska. In the semi's, Jordan won an exciting match 8-7 over Brent Goodenbour from B-B-E, and in the finals, Jordan came up on the losing end in a close match against Jacob Forcier from EV-W 5-9. Travis Schiefelbein (152) received the number one seed, based on how impressive he wrestled in last year's section tournament, and Travis continued to step up in the big tournaments, winning in the quarter finals with a fall in 1:21 over Cody Kittelson from Minnewaska. In the semi's, Travis wrestled a smart match against Nate Becker from B-EV, taking advantage of every mistake made by Nate, Travis came out on top 7-2. In the finals, Travis lost a close match to Lucian Grow from Sauk Centre 7-10.

Kimball had three guys that did everything right and just missed the state tournament, but gave great performances on the weekend. Tyler Kuechle (125) lost a close semi-final match in overtime 2-4 to Matt Lee from ACGC. Tyler came back and placed third in the tournament, but was unable to get a true-second match because he had already wrestled the second-place finisher. David Joseph (171) also had a very close semi-final match losing to Ryan Larson from ACGC 7-8. David also came back and placed third, but for the same reason as Tyler, was unable to get a true-second match. Alex Thurber (215) put together a good tournament and was able to set himself up for a true second match. In the semi-final match Alex lost to Brandon Manderscheid from Minnewaska who is currently ranked 4th in state 2-11. Alex came back and placed third and was able to wrestle Joe Holdvogt from EV-W for a true second match. Joe is currently ranked 6th in state, and in order for Alex to make it to the show he would need an upset. Alex kept the match close all the way through, but lost by a fall late in the third period.

In his fourth year of wrestling Mitch Pramann (145) was able to place in sixth place at the tournament and gained another year of experience. All of the kids that wrestled in this tournament did a great job and represented Kimball very well; we can all be proud of them for the hard work they have put in this year.

The state tournament will be held at the Xcel Center in St. Paul starting Wednesday, March 3, and going through Saturday, March 6.Our wrestlers will have their first match Wednesday, starting around 8 p.m. Depending on those results, their second match will be Thursday at 6 p.m. or 9 p.m.
