John and Robert Roscoe will present Legacies of Faith at the Stearns History Museum and Research Center Breakfast Club program at 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 10. Their presentation will highlight the unique history and architecture of Stearns County's Catholic churches, the majority built between 1871 and 1931. They will also share early settlement patterns, ethnic characteristics and European influence in local church design.
Their passion for the topic stems from an interest in local history and the built environment. Fifty Catholic churches are scattered throughout Stearns County from small hamlets to larger cities. The churches themselves reflect the people that settled in each community. Often located in the center of town, the churches incorporated European architectural styles and used traditional building materials. The Roscoes' will illustrate these stories with contemporary photos taken by Doug Ohman, a Minnesota photographer with an interest in the topic.
