Genevieve Myllykangas, 75

Genevieve Myllykangas of Litchfield, formerly of Hutchinson, Darwin, and Kingston, died Monday, Feb. 22, 2010, at the Emmanuel Home in Litchfield. She was 75.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel with Rev. John Peterson officiating. Interment of the urn will be held in the spring at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Fort Ripley in Little Falls. Visitation with family and friends will be Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel and one hour prior to the service at the church Thursday.

Genevieve (Bergquist) Myllykangas was born Nov. 27, 1934, to Emery and Ethel (Robertson) Bergquist in Litchfield. She grew up in the Kingston area and graduated from Kimball High School in 1952. She was confirmed Jan. 2, 1949, at the Lake Union Covenant Church and was a member of the All Saints Lutheran Church in Darwin.

Genevieve married Robert Myllykangas at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Kingston. Together they made their home in the Kingston area before moving to Darwin, Hutchinsion, and finally settling in Litchfield for the past six months.

She enjoyed traveling with Bob, spending time in Texas and wintering in Arizona for several years. She loved to spend time reading cookbooks and baking. She thoroughly enjoyed spending the holidays with her family and taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by her family and her friends.

Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Lillian; brother-in-law Gordon Myllykangas; and sister-in-law Vera Myllykangas.

She is survived by her husband Robert of Litchfield, children John (and Jill) Myllykangas of Hutchinson, Peggy (and Steve) Johnson of Litchfield, and Richard (and Tammy) Myllykangas of Hutchinson; 10 grandchildren Shane Retzlaff, Jetta May, Jacob Blake, Chad Blake, Bobby Blake, Stephanie Johnson, Joshua Johnson, Teri Vandesteeg, Tina Myllykangas, and Nathan Myllykangas; and 14 great-grandchildren.
