Friday, Feb. 12, at 7:33 a.m., Meeker County Sheriff's Office received a call from the Dassel-Cokato School Bus Company reporting that one of their buses had been involved in a vehicle accident with injuries at the intersection of MN Highway 15 and CSAH 21 in Kingston Township.
The Dassel-Cokato school bus driven by John Rokala, age 78, of Dassel, was traveling eastbound on CSAH 21, crossing Highway 15, when a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Daniel Schneider, age 28, of Kimball was traveling southbound on Highway 15. The Silverado collided with the school bus on the rear driver's side portion of the bus. The weather condition at the time of the accident was dense fog. Eight students were injured and transported to Litchfield and Hutchinson hospitals for further evaluation. The injuries received were non-life threatening. The students were middle-school age students from Dassel-Cokato School.
The State Patrol is investigating this accident and the Meeker County Sheriff's Office is assisting. Agencies that responded were Meeker County Sheriff's Office, State Patrol, Dassel Fire and Rescue, Gold Cross Ambulance, Watkins Ambulance, and Cokato Ambulance.
