The public is invited to learn more about the St. Cloud VA and give back to veterans by volunteering
The St. Cloud VA Medical Center will celebrate National Salute to Veterans the week of Feb. 8-14. The St. Cloud events are part of a nationwide celebration that honors America's veterans who receive health care in VA medical centers and nursing homes. During National Salute Week, the VA invites the public to learn more about their nearest medical center and encourages them to give back to Veterans through VA volunteerism.
The following events will take place during National Salute to Veterans Week:
The local Veterans Creative Arts exhibit - 12:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, and - 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11 at VA Auditorium (Building 8). The public is welcome to attend at no charge.
More than 60 pieces of art created by veterans will be on display.
Artwork will include fine art, applied art and craft kits.
Local artists will judge the artwork.
First place winners in each category will advance to a national competition.
A variety show featuring the St. Paul Clown Club - 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, in the VA Auditorium. The show will also showcase local veterans who are competing in the performance portion of the Veterans Creative Arts program.
The VA Voluntary Service Committee will sponsor many other events to celebrate National Salute. Those include visitation and valentine distribution by local and state dignitaries, a special "sweetheart" luncheon for residents and spouses of residents of the Community Living Center, a prime rib dinner for all veterans residing at the facility, and many other recreation activities throughout the week. The public is encouraged to deliver valentine cards for veterans through Feb. 12 to the VA's Voluntary Service office, located in Building 8, Room 108.
