The Clearwater River Watershed District was awarded a grant for $70,900 for a project with area-wide benefit.
The CRWD requested the funds from Minnesota Board of Water & Soils Resources to ameliorate stormwater runoff from Kimball streets into Willow Creek. Currently, stormwater flows directly into the creek, which is one of only six Minnesota trout streams located in a city; this unnaturally raises the water temperature, and it also washes pollutants into the stream. Willow Creek flows into Clearwater River, Lake Betsy, and the Mississippi River.
CRWD, the Kimball council, and their engineers are already hard at work on plans to better handle stormwater runoff in Kimball. Watch for more details as they are available.
