Dr. Robert Mackereth of Annandale died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at the Annandale Care Center. He was 89.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m.Wednesday, Jan. 27, at Zion Lutheran Church in Annandale, with funeral services at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Annandale.
Dr. Robert Dale Mackereth was born Aug. 23, 1920, in Kimball to C. Bryan and Mae E. (Ellis) Mackereth. He was a 1937 graduate of Kimball High School and a 1943 graduate of the School of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University in Ames. Doc then practiced veterinary medicine in central Minnesota until retiring in 1968. He married Marsella M. Hinz Jan. 25, 1944, in Kimball. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Assn., and was a charter member of the Annandale Lions Club. He was instrumental in the building of Kimball Golf Club and served as a board member.
Robert was preceded in death by brothers Leslie, Dean, and Glenn Mackereth, and sisters Alice Dammann and Doris Nelson.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 66 years Marsella of Annandale; children Dale (and Anne) of Minneapolis, Jon (and Cheryl) of Afton, George of Minneapolis, Janet and Laurie Reardon of Wayzata, Alan (and Diane) of Monticello, Bryan (and Sharon) of Annandale, Joel (and Laurie) of Buffalo; sisters-in-law Betty Mackereth of Kimball, Shirley Mackereth of Duluth; brothers-in-law Orville Nelson of Thief River Falls, and Luvern Hinz of Kimball; and 14 grandchildren.
The urnbearer will be Heather Mackereth and other grandchildren will be honorary pallbearers.
