Cubs' defense stifles Johnnies

The Kimball boys' basketball team hosted the Johnnies from St. John's Prep last Monday night, Jan. 11. Both teams struggled shooting the ball as St. John's Prep jumped out to an early lead. At the half, the Johnnies were in front by a score of 17-14.

In the second half, the Cubs slowly worked their way back into the lead. The Cubs were sparked by two big baskets, a three-pointer from Austin Ruehle and a lay-up from Brett Ostby. Kimball went on to win by a final score of 43-30.

Dillon Menson led the scoring attack with 13 points. Brett Ostby added nine. Alex Fischer led the Cubs on the boards with eight. Neil Helgeson dished out four assists, Pat Libbesmeier chipped in with four steals. The Cubs now have a record of five wins and three losses on the season.

Cubs fall to Jaguars

The Kimball boys' basketball team hosted the Jaguars from Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Thursday, Jan. 14. B-B-E jumped out to an early lead (10-0) as the Cubs were cold from the field. Kimball made a late charge to go into halftime down 14 points (39-25). The Jaguars continued their hot shooting in the second half, pulling away from the Cubs for a 25-point win by a score of 82-57.

Neil Helgeson led the team in scoring with 21 points. Alex Fischer added 10 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Helgeson contributed six assists, and Dillon Menson had two steals. Poor shooting plagued the Cubs as they shot 67 percent (18/27) from the free-throw line and 37 percent (17/46) from the field. Kimball now has a record of five wins and four losses on the season.
