Cubs outdo Holdingford

The Cubs traveled to Holdingford Thursday, Jan. 7, for a Central Minnesota Conference dual against the Huskers. The wrestlers picked up the season in the new year right where they left off in 2009, with a dominating win over Holdingford, a conference and section foe. The Cubs were led by senior Justin Huhn (119), junior Tyler Kuechle (125), seventh-grader Jordan Joseph (135), and junior Mitch Pramann (145), all recording pins for the Cubs. Marcus Hamer (103) won by a forfeit, Caramon Hansen (140) picked up a major decision, Travis Schiefelbein (152) and David Joseph (160) won by a decision to give the Cubs a 40-18 conference win. The Cubs are now 7-0 overall on the season with a 2-0 conference record and a 3-0 section record.

Cubs claim crown at Royalton

Saturday, Jan. 9, the Cubs traveled to Royalton for an individual tournament. The Wrestlers had eight guys in the finals, capturing seven titles and placing 14 in the tournament, to get the win by more than 60 points. The Cubs wrestled well all day and were led by great performances out of Marcus Hamer (103), Tanner Mills (112), Jordan Joseph (135), Caramon Hansen (140), Travis Schiefelbein (152), David Joseph (160), and Alex Thurber (189), who all took home titles for the Cubs. Placing second in the tournament was junior Tyler Kuechle (125). In third place for the Cubs was Quentin Bryce (130) and Cody Mackereth (Hwt.). Placing fourth was Mitch Pramann (145) and Austin Schiefelbein (171). Placing fifth was Justin Huhn (119) and Andrew Kieke (160). The "Mack Truck" Cody Mackereth received the most pins in the least amount of time awarded, with 3 pins in a total time of 5 minutes and 17 seconds. Freshman Marcus Hamer (103) and seventh-grader Jordan Joseph (135) remain undefeated on the year with records of 13-0. The Cubs will next host the Kimball Duals Saturday, January 16, with wrestling starting at 10 a.m.
