Monday, Dec. 21, Kimball visited Paynesville for the final game before the Holiday break, looking to finish the 2009 year on a winning note. Hot three-point shooting by the Bulldogs and some unforced errors by the Cubs would allow Paynesville to stay in the game early, as the first half ended in a 20-20 tie. Another three-pointer out of the break would put Kimball down 23-20, but then the Cubs got things going with a seven-point run of their own to take the lead 27-23. From there, the Cubs would gradually extend the lead and finish with a hard-fought 54-45 win. Several Cubs contributed in the victory led by junior Megan Garding with 17 points and 13 rebounds, 11 of those boards coming on the offensive end. Sophomore Mandy Wittenberg added 10 points and five rebounds. Sophomore Brooke Merten finished with 9 points highlighted by connecting on Kimball's only 3-point shot and shooting four for four from the free-throw line. Senior Kelsey Vigoren also shot well from the charity stripe, making four out of five finishing with 8 points. Sophomore Liz Kastanek also performed well and chipped in 4points while junior Natalie Stein, senior Sarah Messer, and junior Shannon Donnay each added 2 points to round out the scoring. Sophomore Rachel Arnold and Garding each had three steals to the lead the defensive attack. Kimball looks to improve on their 5-2 record after the Holiday break with three games their first week back at Milaca (Jan. 5) then home against Maple Lake (Jan. 7) finishing home versus Swanville (Jan. 8). Go Big Blue!
