Wrestlers go 2-0 before Christmas break

The Cubs traveled to Annandale for some non-conference duals against Annandale/Maple Lake and Glencoe-Silver Lake/Lester Prairie.

Kimball 78 GSL 0

The Cubs first dual of the night was against the Panthers from GSL. We started the night out getting pins from Marcus Hamer (103) and Justin Huhn (112) to put the Cubs up 12-0. GSL would forfeit the next three weights to the Cubs, giving them a 30-0 lead going into 135. Quentin Bryce (135) kept the Cubs rolling with another pin and a 36-0 lead. At 140 Jordan Joseph won a hard fought match 11-6. Mitch Pramann (152) and Travis Schiefelbein recorded back to back pins giving the Cubs a 57-0 lead. At 189 Austin Schiefelbein recorded his first varsity win with a 4-2 decision over Cody Christenson, and Cody Mackereth ended the match with a fall in 3:04 to give the Cubs a 78-0 victory.

Kimball 37 Annandale/Maple Lake 22

The second dual of the night was against the Lightning from Annandale/Maple Lake. This was Alumni night for Annandale/Maple Lake which brought in a lot of fans for the Lightning, but the Kimball support really showed, as we matched the number of fans they brought in. It was an exciting match all the way through, starting at 103 was Marcus Hamer with a 7-5 decision over Jordan Hannan. Tanner Mills (112) received a forfeit putting the Cubs up 9-0. Tanner Meierhofer (125) had a match that went back and forth, putting the fans on the edge of their seats which Tanner ended up winning 15-10, to give the Cubs a 12-6 lead. Tyler Kuechle (130) won a hard fought match to keep us rolling and a 15-6 lead. Jordan Joseph (135) had another exciting match that he won by a decision 8-6. Going into the 171 weight class the Cubs lead was 24-16. David Joseph (171) started off the rally that would lock the win up for the Cubs with a 9-1 decision over his opponent. Alex Thurber (189) kept it going with an exciting 13-9 decision win, and Austin Schiefelbein (215) sealed the win for the Cubs with a fall in 4:43.

The Cubs are currently 6-0 overall, 2-0 in Section 5A, and 1-0 in the CMC Conference. The Cubs will open up 2010 with a CMC Conference opponent when they take on Holdingford on Jan. 7, in Holdingford. Varsity wrestling will start at 7 p.m.
