Win lunch with former Twins player Tony Oliva

Attend the St. Cloud River Bats 2009 Alumni Game at 7:05 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at Joe Faber Field for a chance to have lunch with Minnesota Twins legend Tony Oliva. The Alumni Game features former Minnesota Twins players along with River Bats alumni. Cost is $12 for reserved seating and $10 for general admission. The game is sponsored in part by the Miracle League, which provides opportunities for children with special needs to play baseball.

Oliva will be at the River Bats game and will be the keynote speaker at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at the seventh annual Expo for Seniors at Whitney Senior Center, 1527 Northway Drive. Oliva will speak about his playing days, what he does now with the Twins and about his community work. Bring a ticket stub from the St. Cloud River Bats Alumni Game on Aug. 21 at Joe Faber Field to the Expo for Seniors to be entered to win a ballpark lunch with Tony-O after his presentation.

Pedro "Tony" Oliva could hit for power and average, run, field and throw, and his versatility made him one of the most feared hitters of his day. Tony-O collected 1,917 hits and retired with a career.304 batting average. He is the only player to win batting titles in his first two seasons and was the winner of three during his 15-year career. He had his number 6 retired in 1991 and was inducted into the Twins Hall of Fame in 2000. Oliva donates countless hours to help Upper Midwest charities raise money through speaking engagements and autographs. He also volunteers for Meals on Wheels. In 2007, Oliva was awarded the Kirby Puckett Award for community service by a former Twins player by the Twins Community Fund's Board of Directors. Born in Cuba, he has made his home in Bloomington for more than 40 years.

The Expo for Seniors, from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., is free and provides seniors and adult children with information on senior resources available in Central Minnesota. The expo features health care, housing, finance, fitness and safety vendors along with free ballpark lunch (while supplies last), health screenings, door prizes and music. St. Cloud River Bats players will be at the Expo to sign autographs.

This event is sponsored by the Good Shepherd Community, St. Cloud River Bats and the St. Cloud Times. For more information, call the Senior Linkage Line at (800) 333-2433 or visit www.expoforseniors.com.
