The Meeker County Sheriff's Officed received several 9-1-1 calls the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 5, in reference to an accident on County State Air Hwy. 11 and 560th Ave., Grove City, involving a passenger car and a motor road grader. It was determined that a 1993 Pontiac Grand Prix, driven by Michael Lanigan, 18 of Grove City, ran into the rear end of a motor road grader driven by Douglas Haagenson, 66 of rural Grove City. Both vehicles were traveling eastbound on County State Aid Hwy. 11 when the Pontiac Grand Prix crested a hill and was blinded by the sun, therefore, causing the driver to not see the motor road grader and running into the rear end of it. Lanigan had three occupants with him - Cybil Rasmussen, 19 of Grove City, and two female juveniles. All occupants required medical attention and were transported to Meeker County Memorial Hospital for evaluation. LifeLink Helicopter later airlifted one female juvenile to St. Cloud Hospital for further evaluation. Grove City Rescue, Grove City Fire Department, Gold Cross Ambulance, Atwater Ambulance, Cosmos Ambulance and LifeLink III Helicopter assisted at the scene. The accident remains under investigation.
