The seventh-grade girls' basketball team closed out their season at Lester Prairie on Dec. 19, with a 33-12 loss. The team was to play in the CMC junior high tournament the next day in Pierz, but because of bad weather, the tournament was cancelled. The team had great focus during the season and worked with determination on getting better, and understanding the game. While the team was able only to get one win this year, they came a long way in understanding the game of basketball and also gaining a feel for how teamwork on both ends of the floor becomes very important. The girls' understanding of team defense was key and each player really took it upon herself to learn and understand the importance of playing the ball and also working on the "help" side of the floor. Intensity and aggressive play were becoming stronger with each practice and game situation including the girls gaining confidence in each other's play. Offensively, the team was able to create good looks at the basket and was becoming much more confident. The team's confidence in ball handling and passing skills was also more evident as was learning the importance of movement and passing angles. We were able to finish plays with a good shot at the basket. This was a very fun team to coach and I would like to thank the players for all of their hard work and dedication. I would also like to thank the parents and fans for their support at our games as well. It takes a lot of effort on everyone's part to be successful. Go Cubs! 2008-09 seventh-grade basketball team: Chaunté Brown, McKenzie Dammann, Erin Diffley, Hollie Donnay, Stacy Hurrle, Kendra Mayer and Alexis Rose.
