Ogilvie, Aug. 26 Despite some early match jitters, the Kimball Cubs junior varsity volleyball team was able to pull out a win against the Ogilvie Lions Tuesday, Aug. 26. The Cubs took the match in three games, losing game one 25-21 after a slow start. The Cubs found their rhythm in games two and three, winning 25-19 and 15-12. This year's junior varsity team includes senior Bridget Gohmann, sophomores Klarissa Eisenbraun, Heidi Lochen, and Chelsey Lamm, and freshmen Rachel Arnold, Maria Donnay, Emily Donnay, and Cora Gohmann. The Cubs will run a 5-1 offense this season, featuring Rachel Arnold as the setter. B. Gohmann and M. Donnay will hit out of the left side, E. Donnay and Eisenbraun work the middle, and C. Gohmann hits on the right. Lochen and Lamm are the team's defensive specialists. The Cubs are coached this year by Tabitha Mortenson and Amy Notch. Their next match is Thursday, Sept. 4 at home against the Pierz Pioneers. Pierz, Sept. 4 The Kimball Cubs junior varsity volleyball team hosted Pierz Pioneers Thursday, Sept. 4. Coming off of a 2-1 win against Ogilvie the previous week, the Cubs were upset 2-0 by the Pioneers. The younger junior varsity squad competed tough against an older Pierz team. Pierz served tough and moved the ball around well, which made it difficult for the Cubs to establish a rhythm. A serving highlight was Klarissa Eisenbraun's scoring a total of eight points in the two games. Maple Lake, Sept. 11 The junior varsity Cubs will be in action against Maple Lake Thursday, Sept. 11, at 6 p.m. during Homecoming week. Amy Notch
