Hilma Johnson of Kingston died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008, at her home. She was 85. Funeral services were held at
2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at the Good Shepherd Free Lutheran Church in Cokato with the Rev. Orval Wirkkala officiating. Interment was at the Cokato Finnish Cemetery,
rural Cokato. A visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, at Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel and one hour prior to services at the church Friday. Hilma Marie (Bristlin) Johnson was born Aug. 21, 1922, in Hewitt to George and Esther (Laastch) Bristlin. She grew up in the Hewitt area, where she attended school. She married Dale Johnson June 22, 1968, in Minneapolis and together they made their home in the Kingston area. Hilma loved to take care of children, she especially enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to embroider and was an avid Barbie doll and tea cup collector. She also enjoyed gardening and going to the Garden Club. She will be deeply missed by her family and her many friends. Hilma was preceded in death by her parents; sons Thomas Virkus, Patrick Rowe and Jerry Rowe; several grandchildren; brother Robert Bristlin; and sisters, Louise Harms and Dorothy Sarrison. Hilma is survived by husband Dale of Kingston; children Charles (and Donna) Rowe of Browerville, Jane "Becky" (and Duane) Monech of Wadena, James (and Barb) Rowe of Browerville, John (and
Jackie) Rowe of Nebraska, Mary (and Duane) Eddy of St. Cloud, William (and Carol) Rowe of Reading, Daniel Rowe of Maplewood, Candy (and Jeff) Gram of Coon Rapids, Steve (and Heather) Virkus of Stacy, Bunny (and Tom) McKee of Kansas City, Kan., Leonard (and Helen) Virkus of Mankato, Alan (and Becky) Johnson of Comfrey; 53 grandchildren; 100 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren; brothers Gilbert (and Ardith) Bristlin of Belle Plaine, George (and Karen) Bristlin of Lino Lakes, Edwin Bristlin of Castleton, N.D., Alfred (and Cleo) Bristlin of Spokane, Wash.; sisters Verona (and Bob) Hinman of Cheney, Wash., Lillian Rowe of Orange Park, Fla., and Elaine McCellan of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
