Charles Wellens, Sr., died Sunday, June 22, 2008, at his Shakopee home. He was 84. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 27, at St. Mary of the Purification Catholic Church in Marystown, Minn. Interment will be at Marystown Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, June 26, at the church, and also one hour prior to the service Friday. Charlie was born Oct. 16, 1923, to John and Elizabeth (Rief) Wellens in Chaska, Minn. He served in the U.S. Army as a Tech 4 tank operator in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He married Am Doerr Aug. 11, 1951; she preceded him in death. He operated a dairy farm outside of Shakopee for 38 years. Since his retirement, Charlie enjoyed fishing, trapping, four-wheeling, and his grandchildren. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, wife Am, and siblings Audrey Tholen, Germain Wellens, James Wellens, and Vernice Kopp. He is survived by his children Chuck (and Melode) Wellens of Shakopee, Bobbie (and Scott) Lindemann of Kimball, Bonnie Wellens of Prior Lake, Bev (and Dale) Rudolph of Shakopee, Daniel Wellens of Shakopee, and Brenda (and Tom) Ginter of Shakopee; grandchildren Anita (and Gregg) Frey of Shakopee, Karla (and Mark Priester) Lindemann of Kimball, Kurt Lindemann of Kimball, Jacob, Jon and Matt Rudolph of Shakopee, and Melissa and Nick Ginter of Shakopee; great-grandchildren Hope and Jordan Miller of Shakopee; and sisters Delores Wellens of Shakopee, Arlene Steiner of Shakopee, and Betty (and James) Moran of Shakopee. Arrangements were by Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home in Shakopee.
