Ida Mares of Watkins died Monday, June 23, 2008, at the Heritage House of Kimball. She was 89. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins with the Rev. John Brunner officiating. Inurnment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Annandale. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 8-10 a.m. Friday at Ertl Funeral Home in Watkins. Senior Citizens will pray the Rosary at 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m. Ida M. Mares was born Sept. 14, 1918, at St. Nicholas, Stearns County, to Nicholas and Rose (Berger) Schmit. She married Wilfred Mares June 2, 1942, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Wilfred died Aug. 23, 1949. Ida was employed as a lab technician at the Watkins Creamery for more than 20 years. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins and was active in Council of Catholic Women. She was also a member of Catholic Aid Association and Watkins Senior Citizens. Her hobbies included bowling, playing cards and fishing. She especially enjoyed baking pies and visiting with friends and relatives. Ida was preceded in death by her parents; husband Wilfred; and five brothers and sisters. Ida is survived by children Duane (and Pat) Mares of Watkins and Judy Richer of Staples; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sisters Alice (and Don) Howard of Anoka, Marge (and Ron) Hentges of St. Louis Park and Kaye (and John) Foley of Burnsville. Casketbearers will be Guy Mares, Curt Mares, Erik Mares, Chad Richer, Kevin Howard and Mark Hentges. Music was provided by Mary Streit and the church choir.
