Bernard Shaw of Golden Valley died Sunday, June 15, 2008, at his home. He was 91. Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday, June 18, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Manannah Catholic Church in Mannannah with Rev. Francis Garvey officiating. Interment was in St. Gertrude Catholic Cemetery, Forest City. Bernard J. Shaw was born Nov. 14, 1916, in Forest City Township, Meeker County, to James and Rose (Crusoe) Shaw. He married Mary Bernice Scribner July 19, 1939, in the Church of Our Lady of Mannanah. Bernard served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war, he and Mary resided in Minneapolis, where he was employed as a bricklayer and cement finisher until retiring in 1982. He was a member of the 49ers Union. His hobbies includes fishing in his earlier years. Bernard was preceded in death by his parents James and Rose Shaw; wife Mary Bernice Shaw in 1988; sister and brothers Marie Shaw, Tom Shaw, Francis Shaw and Ed Shaw. Bernard is survived by children and their spouses Sharon Barber of Delano, Phyllis (and Jerry) Clarke of Mounds View, Mary (and Jim) Wittrock of Clearwater, Barbara Shaw of Brooklyn Park, Mike Shaw of Minneapolis, and John Shaw of Golden Valley; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and brother Eugene Shaw of Litchfield. Casketbearers were Tom Clarke, Steve Clarke, Nicolas Shaw, Cory Chadwick, Dennis Wittrock and Dennis Wittrock Jr. Music was provided by Janet Johnson and Janet Porten. Arrangements wre made by Ertl Funeral Home in Watkins.
