Coached by Howie Bahn and Maureen Dingmann, the Kimball eighth-grade girl's traveling basketball team participated in the MIT Pacesetter Tournament at St. Benedict's in St. Joseph Saturday and came home with third-place medals. Playing without Liz Kastanek, who injured her knee in practice Wednesday, Kimball made a strong showing in pool play (16-minute games) by defeating Yellow Medicine East (13-11 in overtime) and Hibbing (16-6), and losing to Chatfield (13-8). Seeded second going into bracket play, Kimball again faced Yellow Medicine East. Injuries early in the game left the Kimball team with five players. Though they played hard, tired legs caught up with them and they fell victim to YME's pressure, size, and quickness, losing 32-12. In the third-place game, Kimball bounced back and walked away with a decisive 28-11 victory. Though injuries hampered their performance on Saturday, the girls had two great weeks of practice and another valuable tournament experience. Facing some of the best eighth-grade teams in the state keeps these girls humble and gives them the incentive to continue striving to improve. Maureen Dingmann, coach
