7th-grade softball

The seventh-grade softball team lost a close game to Eden Valley-Watkins Thursday night. Just a few weeks earlier in the season, the Cubs won their first game against Eden Valley-Watkins by a score of 11-8. The Cubs came up four runs short on Thursday in this 15-19 game, however, we saw plenty of hits, walks and steals by both teams. The Cubs had also played Maple Lake at home. The Cubs were defeated in this match up by a score of 8-20. We had a lot trouble getting on track against the Irish. We were behind by 10 after two innings. We were not able to get on the scoreboard until the third inning. The Cubs were able to put four runs on the scoreboard, but the Irish had the answer, as they were able to score four of their own to keep the point spread at a safe distance. The Cubs then traveled to HLWW to face the Lakers. The Cubs again got off to a slow start offensively falling behind by 10 in the third inning before getting their offense up and running. The Cubs cut the lead to six runs after 3 innings and then shut the Lakers out in the fourth. We would put one more run on the board cutting the lead to just five. The fifth inning saw the Lakers get three more insurance runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to push the lead to 13-5. The top of the fifth inning saw the Cubs playing an aggressive, strong offense scoring four more runs before getting their third out ending the game at 9-13. The team and I would like to thank the parents and fans for their continued support at our games. Go Cubs! Barry Strand, coach
