Lack of snow and mild temperatures

By Mark Anthony,

Chief Meteorologist

As the trend has been pretty much this entire winter, there is a chance of one to two inches of snow across southern Minnesota Wednesday into Wednesday night. On Monday, a similar storm track brought one to two inches of snow in that same part of the state. All across central and northern Minnesota the lack of snow and the mild temperatures are melting what little snowpack there is across the state.

As of Monday, the southern half of the state of Minnesota had anywhere from no snow on the ground to about an inch of snow. Areas around Park Rapids and Walker reported about one to four inches of snow on the ground. The Bemidji area and points north to the Canadian border were reporting about three to six inches of snow. The locations with the most snow on the ground were in the extreme northeastern part of the state with about eight to 10 inches of snow on the ground.

Finally, it sure is good to see the daysÊgetting longer. Over the past week we have added about 21 minutes of daylight as we are picking up about three minutes of daylight each day. The sun is setting now near 6 p.m. and rising just past

7 a.m. This factÊis a sureÊsign that spring is fast approaching!

Have a great week!
