Lions devour Cubs

The Kimball Cubs hosted the Legacy Christian Academy Lions last Monday night, Jan. 23. The Cubs fell behind early in the game, and tried to play catch up the entire first half. Shots were just not falling for Kimball. In the first half alone, the Cubs were 2 of 13 from the charity stripe. Kimball trailed at the half by a score of 33-12.

The second half was very similar to the first. The Lions started with a 12-0 run to increase their lead to 33. Legacy Christian coasted the rest of the way for a 64-28 victory.

The leading scorer for the Cubs was Aaron Laabs with nine points. Preston Peglow had three steals. Ed Nielsen led the Cubs with six rebounds. The loss dropped the Cubs to a record of 4-9 on the season.

Cubs fall to Rockets in conference play

The Rockford Rockets were in town for a conference match-up against the Cubs this past Thursday night, Jan. 26. Kimball jumped out to an early 5-2 advantage. Rockford answered and took a 20-11 lead midway through the first half. At halftime, the Cubs trailed by thirteen (34-21).

The Rockets started out hot in the second half, going on a 7-0 run to build their lead to 20 points. Again, the Cubs struggled shooting the ball, shooting 15/46 (33 percent) from the field and 10/17 (59 percent) from the free-throw line. The Rockets shot 21-49 (43 percent) from the field and 15/20 (75 percent) from the free-throw line.

Cameron Hunt led the way for the Cubs with ten points. Jarred Merchant dished out three assists and had seven rebounds. The Cubs fell to 1-5 in the conference and are now 4-10 overall on the season.
