Barn fire in South Haven

Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 5:58 p.m.,
the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office, Dassel Fire Department, Litchfield Fire Department, Kimball Fire Department, Cokato Fire Department, and Meeker Co-op Light and Power Association responded to multiple calls at 31252 733rd Avenue for a barn fire. One of the reporting parties, a neighbor, noticed the fire after a lightning strike had hit the barn. The owners, Dale Atkinson, age 61, and Linda Atkinson, age 62, of South Haven, were not at home at the time the fire started. The barn 32 X 60 (feet) was used to store antiques and household items. The barn had an attached shed
16 X 30 (feet) on one side, and a second shed, a chicken coop about
12 X 20 (feet) with approximately 50 young laying chickens that were caught in the fire. The barn was insured and was a total loss. The damage is estimated at approximately $207,000 with buildings and contents. There were no injuries resulting from the fire and no one was present at the residence at the time of the fire. Lindberg Excavating Inc. of Cokato, was called to assist in spreading the rubble, to extinguish hot spots.


Five arrested in Annandale murder, one suspect still sought

In the early morning hours of Saturday, Sept. 28, several individuals arrived at the Poplar Ave. home of Kyle Greene in Annandale. Their intent, stated later to police, was to rob him of cash and/or drugs. The result was that Greene was shot with a shotgun as the group left. Greene died, everyone else fled. Police were called after Greene’s girlfriend came home from work and found him dead in the garage; that was just before 8 a.m. Saturday.

Five people have been arrested in the case thus far, and a juvenile has been questioned. A sixth suspect is sought for second-degree murder and aggravated robbery.


Level 3 offender moving to Eden Lake Twp.

Information is being released by the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office, pursuant to Minnesota Statute 244.052, regarding a level 3 predatory offender moving into Eden Lake Township Oct. 14. Michael Shawn Klappenbach, age 40, is not wanted by the police, and has served the sentence imposed on him by the court. He has a history of engaging in sexual contact with a female age 15. Contact included fondling and penetration. The offender was known to the victim. A community notification meeting has been scheduled for the Paynesville City Hall at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10. Representatives from the Department of Corrections and the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office will be available to provide the public with useful information on public safety.

Wright County Sheriff’s Office

Sept. 25, Patrick Michael Remer, 49 of Maple Lake, was arrested in Buffalo on a Wright County warrant for stalking.

Sept. 26, Michael Jake Gagnon, 41 of Maple Lake, was arrested in Benton County on Wright County warrants for disorderly conduct and violation of a no contact order.

Sept. 26, Matthew Ray Thurman, 19 of Cokato, was arrested in Buffalo on a Wright County warrant for fifth-degree controlled substance violation.

Sept. 28, Dean Eric Kofoed, 55 of Maple Lake, was arrested in Maple Lake Township on the charge of reckless discharge of a firearm.

Sept. 29, Samara Leigh Juhl, 19 of Otsego, was arrested in Buffalo on the charge of aiding and abetting robbery.

Sept. 29, Tyler James Fisher, 19 of Annandale, was arrested in Corinna Township on the charges of second-degree murder and aiding and abetting robbery.


Homicide in Annandale

Saturday, Sept. 28, at 7:59 a.m., the Annandale Police Department was dispatched to a residence on Poplar Avenue North in Annandale where 42-year old Kyle Greene was found dead in his house. The case is being investigated by Annandale Police, Wright County Sheriff’s Office, and the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office.

Sunday, Sept. 29, the Midwest W-tylerjamesfishersamaraleighjuhlMedical Examiner’s Office ruled the death of Kyle Greene was homicide. That same day, two persons were arrested in connection with Greene’s death. Tyler James Fisher, 19 of Annandale, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. Samara Leigh Juhl, 19 of Otsego, also was arrested. Both remain in Wright County Jail, and both were charged with aggravated robbery.

The incident remains under investigation and anyone with information about the death is asked to call the Annandale Police Department or the Wright County Sheriff at (763) 682-1162. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
