EV-W-K track team’s right in stride at Dave Sieben Invitational

The Dave Sieben Invitational track meet was held at Albany High School in Melrose last Thursday, May 9, attracting 15 women’s teams and 14 men’s teams, offering 18 competitive events in each category. Men’s coach Jason Mortenson is pleased with the athletes’ efforts and remains confident of a successful season. “Last night at the Melrose Dave Sieben Invite, the ladies took 6th out of 15, and the guys took 2nd out of 14 teams. Other than the weather the meet was good for us. Connor Wittenberg tied the school record in the high jump at 6’3”! This was our final prep for our conference meet in Pierz next week, and the subsection meet at B-B-E the week after.” EV-W-K ladies’ coach Gordy Schlangen has no complaints about what he witnessed. “The girls competed hard at a very large Melrose meet and finished strong. There were a lot of good times and distances. Hopefully this effort can carry over to our conference meet next week.”

EV-W-K girls’ and boys’ track teams shine strong at St. John’s Prep

The Eden Valley-Watkins-Kimball girls’ and boys’ track and field teams traveled to St. John’s Prep Friday, May 3, for a 7-team showdown. The squads captured second place in their respective divisions. Boys’ coach Jason Mortenson is happy with the results and sees a promising season W-EWK-TRACK-img 5372ahead. “Connor Wittenberg broke the school record in the 110-meter hurdles for Kimball! The team finished second to Maple Lake, again. Our team is getting stronger with many personal bests each meet and we are competing well with all the teams at the meets. Maple Lake is incredibly tough and will probably go to True Team State again this year. We have two more meets to prepare for the conference meet. We basically have our line-up ready, but need to fine-tune a couple of events for the next two meets to see if we can better our chances.”  EV-W-K girls’ coach Gordy Schlangen echoes Mortenson’s sentiments.  “At St. Johns, the girls’ team had 11 different personal bests in their events. They did a great job and finished second to a tough Maple Lake team.”
