Kimball Area High School 2012 graduate Rachel Arnold gave a record-breaking, stellar performance recently, in the start of her first volleyball career at Gustavus Adolphus College. Arnold, now a sophomore, shelled out 50 assists and added 14 digs in a victorious match over St. Mary’s College. If that wasn’t enough, Rachel registered another 50 assists and 13 digs in the ensuing match with St. Catherine’s, becoming the first Gustie setter in four years to record 50 or more assists in back-to-back matches. Bridget Burtzel distributed 63 assists against Concordia, followed by 56 assists vs. Macalester, in 2009. “It’s all about working hard, having faith and expecting the unexpected. The number one thing is to remember to work as a team and support each other; the rest is just about having fun,” Arnold said.

Help Kimball Elementary put two iPad minis in each classroom to aid in our children’s education

The KES third-grade students are thanking The Kimball and Fairhaven Lions clubs for providing the funding for iPads that the students began using January 2013. The iPads have so many instructional uses that the teachers feel the need to place two iPads in each classroom in grades K-6.

October KAHS Students of the Month

In order to recognize achievement, outstanding progress, and responsible behavior in our student body, grade-level teams made up of w-studentsMoNovteachers select one Kimball Area High School student in each grade to be recognized as the Student of the Month. The monthly winners are recognized in school, on the school website, and in the Tri-County News. They also receive a Dairy Queen gift certificate and Chamber Bucks from the Kimball Area Chamber of Commerce. Special thanks to Annandale’s Dairy Queen and the Kimball Chamber of Commerce for sponsoring this program. The following students are recognized for October 2013.

Veterans celebrated at Kimball

W-IMG 4881KIMBALL held a program at the high school with students from grades 3-12 at 10 a.m. Veterans Day, Nov. 11. Local veterans (above) were asked to sit in front of the students for the program. The Kimball Legion Auxiliary and Junior Auxiliary presented the flag-folding ceremony, and the POW-MIA table. 2013 Girls’ Stater Erin Diffley spoke. Guest speaker Jack Young was unable to attend, but the moving video of his 2010 Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., was played. The students were quiet and respectful, which says a lot. The program ended with all singing “America, the Beautiful.”
