Ostmark Lutheran Church of rural Watkins is planning their porkchop-sweetcorn dinner. The Ostmark Churchmen will serve a dinner after the 10:30 a.m. morning worship service, Sunday, Aug. 11.
They will serve porkchops, hot dogs, homegrown sweet corn, baked potatoes, cole slaw, homemade ice cream and beverage.
The cost is for adults, $8; ages 5-12 $5; and under 5 is free. Everyone is welcome.
Holy Cross Parish celebrated their festival Saturday and Sunday, July 13 and 14. Tom and Marlene Konz are seen presenting the $5,000-winning check to Dean Hawkinson representing the Watkins and Kimball Veterinary Clinics. The Clinic’s name was drawn at the parish festival in Pearl Lake. The proceeds from this winning check will be divided between the parish and the veterinary clinic non-owner employees. St. Wendelin's Parish Bazaar was held Sunday, July 28, in Luxemburg. The day was filled with music, games, food, and fun for all.
Parishoners and guests enjoyed a lovely, although a bit cool, day for the St. Wendelin’s Parish Bazaar Sunday, July 28. At left are some of the games available to all ages. The Rich Stang Band and BLT provided music all afternoon. Their famous all-you-can-eat chicken and ham dinner was a hit again this year.

St. Gertrude’s Catholic Church in Forest City is organizing a pedal pilgrimage to the Grasshopper Chapel in Cold Spring. The trip combines spiritual and physical exercise. Bikers gather at 3 p.m. Monday,
Aug. 15, for prayer at St. Gertrude’s with additional prayer stops along the way. The pilgrimage concludes with Mass at the Grasshopper Chapel in Cold Spring.
The Grasshopper Chapel, formerly known as Assumption Chapel, was built upon Chapel Hill overlooking Cold Spring in thanksgiving for relief from the devastating Minnesota Grasshopper Plagues of the 1870s. While the prayer of the pilgrimage reflects the Catholic tradition, people from all faith traditions are invited to participate in this 20-bike ride.
