EV-W wrestlers’ team sections done

Heading to individuals

The Eden Valley-Watkins wrestlers entered the Class A Section 5 Team Tournament Tuesday, Feb. 11, as the No. 5 seed. They lost to No. 4 seed Paynesville, 51-25, thus ending their season. “Well, the season is over for team competition, but individuals are next week, so we’re preparing the kids to compete next Friday and Saturday. Last night, I thought with having three opens, we wrestled well. A couple of matches went their way, and we had a few regulars out, and that’s tough. The 26-point deficit could have been much different, but that’s how it goes. Paynesville was just better than us,” Coach Dan Berg said.

Match Summary: 113 Matt Schindler (Eden Valley-Watkins) won by pin over Alex Mages (Paynesville) 1:29; 126 Hunter Mathies (Eden Valley-Watkins) won by pin over Connor Meagher (Paynesville) 0:32; 132 Tyler Dockendorf (Eden Valley-Watkins) won by major decision over Jonathan Schaeffer (Paynesville) 13-0; 160 Cain Renner (Eden Valley-Watkins) won by pin over Grant Ludwig (Paynesville) 1:08; 170 Luke Kuechle (Eden Valley-Watkins) won by decision over Jacob Mages (Paynesville) 4-0. The Eagles will have about 10 days off before individuals get underway. “The kids need to change their focus and prepare to do their best. This is the fun time of year because anything can happen,” said Coach Berg.
