Enjoy South Haven Days July 27

Come and celebrate South Haven Days with us, you can attend the parade at 11 a.m. and then walk over to Zion United Methodist Church for the car show and family activities!

There’s something for everyone!

The Children’s games and sidewalk chalk drawing will be from 11:30-12:30 p.m. Everyone’s a winner and every child will receive a prize.

The Big Fun Show is great entertainment for the whole family from 12:30-1:30 p.m. on the grass by the west side of the church. In case of rain it’ll move inside. Its comedy, juggling, magic and modern Vaudeville, a one-man circus performed by Mr. Fun himself Dave Walbridge and it is incredible fun for everyone. The whole family can enjoy the performance. This is a Legacy Funded event, sponsored by the Annandale/Kimball Great River Regional Library. Bring your own chair or blanket and relax and enjoy the show.

Nystrom family reunion June 29

The first ever Nystrom family reunion was held Saturday, June 29, at Willow Creek Park in Kimball. Descendants of Nils and Carrie Nystrom were invited to share photos and
W-Peter-Nystromstories and family heritage. Nils and his brother Olof were some of the original settlers in the French Lake area emigrating to this country from Sweden in 1879 and 1870 respectively. Carrie arrived in Cokato from Sweden in 1881 and married Nils in 1882, leaving a long family legacy in this area. A good time was had by all and another family reunion is being planned for 2015.

Mozenas: Kimball Grand Marshals

Dean and Karen Mozena were nominated to be this year's Kimball Days Grand marshals. Both have been integral parts of the Kimball community for many years. Congratulations to them both! The Kimball Days parade is at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11. Watch for the Mozenas to lead the parade.

That’s appropriate as Dean was recently celebrated for having been a bus driver in Kimball for 55 years. This coming school year, both Dean and Karen will drive for Hendricks Bus Service.

Minnesota National Guard 849th Mobility Augmentation Company deploys

Tuesday, July 16, morning, the 849th MAC reserves left Willmar for deployment. Ninety-five soldiers from the Minnesota National Guard are leaving Minnesota for training, then for a one-year deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These soldiers will be assigned to the 878th Engineer Battalion, which is headquartered in Augusta, Ga.

Operation Enduring Freedom is the name of U.S. military operations in Afghanistan. These soldiers will conduct route clearance missions to ensure mobility of coalition forces. In addition to this primary mission, they will also conduct limited infantry operations.

The soldiers represent communities throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin:

Albert Lea, Atwater, Burnsville, Clearwater, Coon Rapids, Duluth, Eden Prairie, Eden Valley, Fargo, Farmington, Grove City, Isanti, Kenyon, Lakeville, Litchfield,
Mankato, Monticello, New Richmond, Wis., Osseo, Owatonna, Proctor, St. Cloud, St. Louis Park,
St. Paul Park, Sauk Rapids,
Shakopee, White Bear Township, and Woodbury.

Minn. Pioneer Park hosts artisan expo

Saturday, July 27, Minnesota Pioneer Park in Annandale will sponsor an area artisan expo from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Artisans will demonstrate, display and sell their work in many of the museum’s historic buildings. Come and experience a wide variety of art including painting, blacksmithing, wood carving and chipping, pottery, photography, spinning, quilting, weaving and more. Musicians will perform in the Finnish Church. Summer-time food favorites also will be available including our famous root-beer floats.

Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students, & under age 5 Free.
