Salvation Army National Donut Day June 6-8

Donuts bought at Coborn’s, Cash Wise support Salvation Army programs for homeless youth 

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Local Coborn’s and Cash Wise stores will donate $1 to the St. Cloud Salvation Army’s shelter programs for homeless youth every time customers buy a specially marked box of donuts. This offer runs June 6–8 in honor of National Donut Day, an annual Salvation Army celebration.

“The picture of the homeless population has changed – services for homeless children are critical,” said Major Lee Morrison, leader of the St. Cloud Salvation Army. “At our 64-bed emergency shelter, on any given night, one of every six beds is occupied by a child 18 or under.”

Bits of news for June

St. Anthony Manor and Watkins Area Homes

Staff of the month is Sheri Foss from Central Minnesota Senior Care. Congratulations and thank you to Sheri for sharing information and pictures. This is posted on the bulletin board at St. Anthony Manor.

Pontoon trips: Paynesville Area Senior Center writes grants and gets donations to offer pontoon trips for area seniors/disabled individuals. The pontoon trips are free. Two trips are scheduled for June 3 and June 11. They will leave St. Anthony parking lot at 1:30 p.m. The pontoon ride will be from 2-4 p.m. and will tour the Chain of Lakes.There is still room so sign up in the community room at St. Anthony Manor. If it is raining, the trip will be rescheduled.

Inspections at Watkins Area Homes is beginning at 9 a.m. Friday, June 7. Dale (maintenance) and Eileen will be inspecting all units at Watkins Area Homes. Rural Development will be coming to the property to inspect
Wednesday, June 19.

American Pie: Please plan to attend and eat at the nutrition site at 11:15 a.m. Friday, June 14. Wear red, white, and blue, eat and enjoy pie. Don’t miss out on the fun. let Robin know that you plan to eat that day by calling (320) 764-5615.

Parade meeting: We will be having our first parade/float meeting. We need volunteers. Please come to St. Anthony Manor at
10 a.m. Thursday, June 20, with ideas. We are planning to create a float to be in the Kraut ’N Wurst parade in Watkins Saturday, Aug. 3.

Vacation Bible School at KUMC

We invite the Kimball area kids (preschool through grade 6) to the Kimball United Methodist Church’s 2013 Vacation Bible School to be held Monday, June 10, through Friday, June 14.

Beginning at 6 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, there will be a light supper for families followed by music, Bible lessons, crafts, fun play and group activities. We will conclude at 8:30 p.m. with our themed group activity entitled “Let Us Pray.” On Thursday night, there will be a “show and tell” program followed by a potluck family supper.

Children/Teen Grief Support Group offered


This summer, Life Transitions will offer a Children and Teen Grief Support Group. This is a six-session (3-week) guided grief support group for youth who have had someone close to them die.

They will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. July 9 and 11; July 16 and 18; and July 23 and 25. This will be at Catholic Charities Life Transitions at 312 2nd Ave. N., in Sauk Rapids, MN 56379; phone (320) 529-0427. All faiths are welcome. You must call to register before starting the group. A $25 fee per family will be charged, but scholarships are available.

Thirty-seven-year cancer survivor walks for a cure
