The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Minnesota sponsors free support groups for families who have a relative with a mental illness. Led by trained facilitators who also have a family member with mental illness, the support groups help families develop better coping skills and find strength through sharing their experiences. A family support group meets in Sartell at
6:30 p.m., on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month, at Unity Spiritual Center,

Maple-syruping demos at Lake Maria State Park

Lake Maria State Park will present its annual maple-syruping demonstrations on March 23 and 24 (Saturday and Sunday) beginning at 11 a.m. and ending at 2 p.m. on both days at the nature center.
Tree tapping techniques will be described, followed by a hike into the woods to identify maple trees, tap a tree and collect the sap. The cooking process and syrup preparation also can be examined.
Hilltop continues fulfilling dreams for residents

Hilltop Health Care Center in Watkins continues to work on fulfilling residents’ dreams. Several residents had a dream to go on a horse and sleigh ride. In cooperation with
Wind River Percherons, operated by Erv & Doreen Brugger, located in rural Kimball area, the residents’ dreams were fulfilled. Residents Bernice Kuechle and Loretta Brutger enjoyed their dream outing, along with another resident and staff on March 3rd. Bernice stated “I wish my husband was alive to be with me, he loved his work horses and harnesses.” Loretta also reminisced about working with horses years ago.

Hilltop Health Care Center in learning collaborative with Stratis Health

Hilltop Health Care Center is excited to be a skilled healthcare member of the Stratis Health Acting Together to Achieve 
Excellence campaign (ATTAX).
Hilltop Health Care Center will participate in this campaign designed to ensure that every nursing home resident receives the highest quality of care. The ATTAX campaign will instill quality and performance improvement practices aimed at attacking and eliminating healthcare acquired conditions and improving resident satisfaction in Minnesota nursing homes. Supporting the development of strategies for overall quality will be at the heart of this work, as well as specific emphasis and resources on improving dementia care, and preventing pressure ulcers, falls and urinary tract infections. Successes and best practices from the group will be shared with the Minnesota nursing home community over the next few years.
