The Lady Eagles basketball team kept their momentum alive with a landslide win against the Maple Lake Irish 52-23 Tuesday, Dec. 11 at Maple Lake. Senior Courtney Dilley #23 led the Eagles with 12 points and 1 assist. Senior Missy Kummet #1 was close behind with 11 points, 7 steals, and 4 assists. Junior Dani Nelson #41 and sophomore Greta Stommes #43 both had 10 points in the game. The Lady Eagles had 10 offensive rebounds, 18 defensive rebounds, 18 assists, 1 block, and 16 steals. Their next game is 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at home against Kimball. To those who equate wrestling with what happens weekly on the WWF or the WWE circuit, I would say give high school wrestling a chance. Once you see a high school wrestling match, you will never settle for anything less. Those lucky individuals who witnessed the thrilling EV-W wrestlers’ victory over the more than ample Royalton grapplers last Thursday night, can certainly vouch for that.

The Eden Valley-Watkins Eagles wrestling team competed at the Tri-Meet against Osakis and Long Prairie-Gray Eagle Tuesday, Dec. 11, in Osakis. The Eagles lost both their matches at the meet. Osakis 27-51 and LPGE 32-39. The Eden Valley-Watkins wrestling team will compete next at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, against Royalton in Eden Valley. The Eagles faced a worthy opponent in Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta, Thursday night, as they suffered their first loss, 49-34. Morris started out hot and never looked back, holding a 12-point first-half advantage. Tigers’ senior center Austin Dierks poured in 17 points, to lead all scorers, while sophomore guard Bret Mattice led the Eagles with 16. The Eagles move to 3-1, with wins over Osakis, Paynesville and St. John’s Prep, and the recent loss to a tough Morris team.

The EV-W boys’ basketball team won their game against St. John’s Prep 56-37 Tuesday, Dec. 11. Senior Brent Stenger #3 led the Eagles in scoring with 21 points, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Fellow Eagle, sophomore Jared Streit #33 had 13 points, 1 assist, 3 blocks, and 3 steals against St. John’s Prep. Sophomore Bret Mattice #5 also had 13 points, and 2 assists.
