This September is National Preparedness Month (NPM). The event, now in its ninth year, is a nationwide, month-long effort hosted by the Ready Campaign and Citizen Corps, encouraging households, businesses and communities to prepare and plan for emergencies. Stearns
County Emergency Management has committed to participate in National Preparedness to encourage readiness throughout
Stearns County. Stearns County
Emergency Management will have preparedness displays at the
Stearns County Administration Building and the Stearns County Service Center in Waite Park.

Suicide Prevention Month events planned at St. Cloud VA

In recognition of September as Suicide Prevention Month, the St. Cloud VA asks individuals to show their support for veterans in crisis and help raise awareness of the VA mental health services veterans have earned. In support of these objectives, several events are planned and the public is invited to attend and participate in the events.

Thursday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m., Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Training is being offered at the St. Cloud Public Library’s Mississippi Room. Gatekeeper training programs offer participants the knowledge to respond to someone in crisis and can save lives.

Wright County Sheriff’s Office

Aug. 19, Tina Louise VanDesteeg, 44 of Howard Lake, was arrested in Cokato Township on a Wright County warrant for theft.

Aug. 19, Crystal Ann Tabbut, 31 of Annandale, was arrested in Buffalo on the charge of theft.

Aug. 19, Brittani Rae Schroeder,
27 of Maple Lake, was charged with felony identity theft.

Aug. 20, Timothy David Rousu, 24 of Annandale was arrested in Monticello on the charge of second- degree DWI test refusal.

Aug. 21, Eric Joseph Raisanen, 40 of Annandale, was charged with felony fraud.

Aug. 22, Anthony James Demarco, 21 of Annandale, was arrested in Annandale on an apprehension and detention order from the Minn. Department of Corrections.

Aug. 22, Matthew Duane Albrecht, 21 of Howard Lake, was arrested in Howard Lake on the charges of second-degree burglary and possession of stolen property.

Aug. 23, Shawn Dean Albrecht, 25 of Howard Lake, was arrested in Howard Lake on the charge of lottery fraud.

Aug. 24, Timothy David Rousu, 24 of Annandale, was arrested in Annandale on a Hennepin County warrant for fifth-degree controlled substance violation.

Aug. 25, Todd Lowell Stenmark, 44 of Cokato was arrested in Cokato on the charge of domestic assault by strangulation.

There were 19 property-damage accidents, 9 personal-injury accidents, 1 hit-and-run accidents, and
2 car-deer accidents.

There were 5 arrests for DWI, and 50 tickets for miscellaneous traffic violations reported this week.

10:20 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office took a report of theft from a boat at a residence on 748th Avenue, Kingston Township, Lake Francis.

10:30 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office took a report of theft from a boat at a residence on 748th Avenue, Kingston Township, Lake Francis.

11:56 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office took a report of theft from a residence on 748th Avenue, Kingston Township, Lake Francis.

1:30 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office assisted the MN State Patrol at the scene of a motorcycle accident on MN Highway 15, Kingston Township. Dassel Rescue and Gold Cross Ambulance were dispatched to the scene. There were only minor injuries reported. Dassel Rescue and Gold Cross Ambulance were canceled a short time later.

5:06 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office assisted the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office in trying to make contact with an individual at a residence on 617th Avenue, Manannah Township. Deputies checked the residence and the individual was found to no longer reside there.

11:23 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of juvenile trouble at the Watkins softball fields on 1st Street in Watkins. Multiple juveniles were given curfew warnings and sent home.

Saturday, Aug. 24

5:02 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office took a report of a possible alarm on Central Avenue South, Watkins.
It was found that it was not an alarm and the deputy was canceled.

10:03 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to and dispatched
Watkins Ambulance to a medical at a residence on Central Avenue South, Watkins. One individual was treated on scene and no transport was needed.

11:23 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office received a driving complaint on westbound MN Hwy. 55, Stearns
County. The caller was transferred to the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office.

Friday, Aug. 23

11:21 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an intoxicated driver in the area of Central Avenue North, Watkins. The vehicle was no longer in the area upon the deputy’s arrival.

3:43 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to and dispatched Watkins Ambulance to a medical at a residence on 653rd Avenue, Forest Prairie Township. One individual was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital.

4:07 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to a suspicious person at St. Matthews United Church of Christ, County State Aid Highway 2, Forest City. The individual was gone upon the deputies arrival.

8:03 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office dispatched Watkins Ambulance to a medical at a residence on Magnus Johnson Street North, Kimball. One individual was transported to the Buffalo Hospital.

11:55 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office took a report of an assault that occurred at the Meeker County Fairgrounds, County State Aid Highway 42, Litchfield Township. Ronald Jason Bergman, age 36 of Litchfield, was arrested for third-degree assault and transported to the Meeker County Jail.

11:58 p.m. a Sheriff’s Deputy observed suspicious activity at the Watkins softball fields on 1st Street in Watkins. The deputy spoke with the individuals and found all to be okay.

Thursday, Aug. 22

10:13 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to and dispatched Dassel Rescue and Gold Cross Ambulance to a medical at a residence on 742nd Ave., Kingston Township. One individual was transported to the Hutchinson Hospital.

3:28 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office assisted the public with a civil matter at a residence in the
Watkins Trailer Park, Watkins.

3:46 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office received a report of mailbox damage at a residence on Meeker
Stearns Street, Forest Prairie Township. The mailbox was actually in Stearns County and the damage will also be reported to them.

4:46 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office took a report of check forgery at Flash’s Gas and Auto, 3rd Street North, Watkins.

8:13 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to and dispatched the Watkins Fire Department to ventilate an apartment at St. Anthony Manor, Watkins. Someone had burned food, and there was no damage.

Wednesday, Aug. 21

7:40 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office assisted the public at a residence in the Watkins Trailer Park. An individual was advised of their options.

11:55 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office took a report of check forgery at the Kingston Minimart, MN Highway 15, Kingston Township.

1:16 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of motor vehicle tampering at a residence in the Watkins Trailer Park. There was no damage to the vehicle and the substance was able to be washed off.

11:03 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office dispatched the Watkins Ambulance to a medical at Hilltop Healthcare Center, Watkins. One individual was transported to the Paynesville Hospital.

Tuesday, Aug. 20

10:18 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office took a report of a vulnerable adult at a residence on Church Street, Watkins.

3:32 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office dispatched Watkins Ambulance to a medical at a residence on Sunrise Drive North, Kimball. One individual was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital.

Monday, Aug. 19

1:32 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to a noise complaint at a park on Cedar Avenue and Church Street, City of Watkins. The deputy checked the park and located a vehicle; the owner of which was contacted, responded and took possession of the keys and the found property.

6:09 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an unwanted person at a residence in the Watkins Trailer Park,
Watkins. Upon arrival of the deputy Samantha Ann Dobis, age 20,
Watkins, was arrested on a Stearns County Warrant.

10:53 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office dispatched Watkins Ambulance to a medical at a residence on
Calumet Road, Stearns County. One individual was transported to the Buffalo Hospital.

11:41 p.m. a Meeker County deputy came across suspicious activity on MN Highway 24,
Forest City Township. All was found to be okay.

Car/bicycle crash near Paynesville


Friday, Aug. 16, at 9:12 a.m., the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office was called to the intersection of County Road 16 and 293 Avenue, approximately 2 miles north of Paynesville, Zion Township, to a reported car / bicycle crash with injuries. Josie Magnan, age 22, was driving a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix southbound on 293 Avenue when she approached the controlled intersection with County Road 16. Magnan continued through the intersection southbound without stopping at the stop sign, and struck the bicyclist, Gerald Johnson, age 55, of Bemidji, who was traveling westbound on County Road 16. Paynesville Fire & Rescue, Paynesville Ambulance and LifeLink were also dispatched to the call. Upon arrival, Johnson was given medical treatment and airlifted to the St. Cloud hospital by LifeLink. Magnan was also given medical treatment and left the scene by private party. Gerald Johnson was participating in day 2 of the “Bicycle Around Minnesota” tour traveling from Albany to Spicer, Minn.

Aug. 12, Timothy Carl Weber, 38 of Annandale, was arrested in Annandale on a MN Department of Corrections warrant for probation violation.

Aug. 12, Linda Sue Gipson, 52 of Annandale, was arrested in Buffalo on Wright County warrants for theft, terroristic threats, and disorderly conduct.

Aug. 14, Mark Reinhold Lies, 28 of Annandale, was arrested in Stearns County on a Wright County warrant for fifth-degree controlled substance violation.
