Learn basket weaving at Annandale Library

Adults and teens 15 and older can learn the basics of simple basket weaving using newspaper in a program at the Annandale Public Library. The two-part program will take place on Saturdays, Aug. 3 and 10, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. 

Local artist Amy Payne will instruct participants. She has created baskets using a variety of materials. In this two-part workshop, she will teach participants how to prepare newspaper materials and the weaving techniques to make a basket of their own. The attendance limit is 15 and preregistration is required.

This program is funded in part with money from Minnesota’s Art and Cultural Heritage Fund.


Eden Valley Library hosts July 23 event

The Eden Valley Area Library and Event Center is happy to host three local folks who are authors and world travelers.

• Stacey (Roeser) Brutger, an EV-W graduate and author of 20 books has started writing more than 10 years ago and writes along the themes of Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance. Stacey’s recent titles include “The Demon Within,” Electric Storm,” and “Blood Sworn.” She and husband Craig reside in the Eden Valley area. She will be available for book signing and will have books for sale.

• Lona Brutger, a retired EV-W Elementary teacher, and her sister Dorothy took a 10-day trip in April along the “Blue Coast” to visit France, Monaco, and Italy. They will visit and share stories about their exciting trip abroad.

This event will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, at the Eden Valley Event Center. Refreshments will be served by the Friends of the Library. Everyone is welcome.

Monroe Crossing – July 26

The Annandale Public Library is sponsoring a performance by Monroe Crossing at the Annandale City Park 7 to 9 p.m. Friday,
July 26. Monroe Crossing is named in honor of Bill Monroe, the “Father of Bluegrass Music.” They play a blend of classic bluegrass, bluegrass gospel and original compositions. Based in Minnesota, they play at major venues around the country and were inducted into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame in 2007. All ages will enjoy their show, which is funded in part with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

Big Fun Show – July 27

People of all ages are invited to enjoy The Big Fun Show taking place on the grass by the Methodist Church as part of South Haven Days Celebration 12:30 to
1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 27. The Big Fun Show includes comedy, juggling, magic and modern vaudeville performed by Dave Walbridge. He has been performing for more than 20 years for clients including Target, Nordstrom, the Mall of America and more than 100 shows for the Renaissance Fair. This program is funded in part with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

Make art in a bottle at Annandale Library

Children ages 7-12 are invited to make Art in a Bottle at the Annandale Public Library from 10-11 a.m. Friday, July 19. All materials will be provided to create a beautiful bottle of art using colored sand. The attendance limit is 12 and preregistration is required. Walk-ins will be welcome if the registration limit isn’t filled.

EV council agrees to library kiosk

On behalf of the Eden Valley Area Library board, Judy Thielen and Diane Thielen spoke to the Eden Valley city council at their July 3 meeting.W-CIMG2917

The library board plans to apply for two grants that would pay the needed $59,000 to purchase and install a kiosk system for library books. One of the grants also would pay for book delivery for one year, about $5,000.
